Clients in Los Angeles

Who we work with in Los Angeles.

Our Los Angeles work grew out of the same networks that built the Toronto business — independent operators, family firms and community organisations who came to us by referral rather than through a pitch. It is a smaller book than Toronto and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

  • DAS Law LA — Legal
  • MidEast Tacos — Hospitality
  • That's So Cheesy — Food & events
  • Boova — Technology
  • Grigor Gevorgyan Foundation — Non-profit
  • AlderCA — Professional services

Legal, hospitality, food and events, technology and non-profit. What these have in common is that each one lives or dies on a specific conversion — a consultation booked, an order placed, a donation completed — and none of them had the budget to waste on a site that merely looked expensive. That is the work we are set up for.

The Los Angeles Market

What we have learned building here.

Los Angeles is the most saturated agency market of the three cities we work in, and the pricing reflects it. There is a large tier of studios selling brand-led design at rates that assume a venture-funded client, which is fine if you are one. Most of the businesses we work with in LA are not — they are established operators who want a site that performs and a straight answer on cost.

Los Angeles search is unusually fragmented by neighbourhood. "Web designer Glendale" and "web designer Santa Monica" behave like separate markets with separate competitors, and ranking for the citywide term is considerably harder and less useful than most agencies imply. We would generally rather win the neighbourhoods you actually serve.

Our History Here

How we ended up working in Los Angeles.

Our Los Angeles clients arrived the way most of our best work does — one business recommending us to another. Our roots are Armenian, which has always given us close ties to Armenian business networks in Toronto, London and Los Angeles, and several of these relationships began there. DAS Law LA, MidEast Tacos, That's So Cheesy, Boova, AlderCA and the Grigor Gevorgyan Foundation are not a vertical or a campaign; they are a network. That shapes how we work here. We are not trying to become the biggest agency in Los Angeles, and we would be bad at it. We are trying to be the studio that a specific set of businesses keeps recommending, which is a much smaller and much more defensible ambition.

What we have actually learned in Los Angeles.

Three sectors we have built in repeatedly here, and what each one taught us about what works.

Legal and professional services

DAS Law LA and AlderCA operate in a market where the client is choosing between several firms who all look competent. The site's job is narrow: establish credibility fast, make the consultation trivially easy to book, and never lose someone on a phone. That means fast pages, plain-language practice descriptions rather than legalese, and a booking flow that works at the moment of intent rather than a contact form answered on Tuesday.

Food and events

MidEast Tacos and That's So Cheesy sell something visual, which sounds like it makes the site easier and actually makes it harder. Large imagery is the enemy of mobile performance, and both businesses get most of their traffic on a phone, often on a poor connection. The work is compression discipline, responsive image handling and a booking or ordering path that survives a two-bar signal — not a bigger hero video.

Non-profit and community

The Grigor Gevorgyan Foundation, like most non-profits, has a smaller budget and a harder job than commercial clients: it has to convert strangers into donors on trust alone. That puts the emphasis on transparent storytelling, a donation flow with as little friction as legally possible, and a site cheap enough to maintain that the money keeps going where it should. We price this work accordingly.

The Fair Question

Why hire a London studio for Los Angeles work?

Why hire a London studio for a Los Angeles business? The honest case is cost and access to seniority. Our cost base is London rather than LA, and we run without the account-management layer most agencies of comparable capability carry, so you talk to the people writing the code. The honest counter-case is the eight-hour gap: if your project needs someone reachable at 4pm Pacific every day, or on site, we are the wrong choice and a local studio is the right one. Most of our LA clients found the trade worthwhile because their projects were defined enough to run asynchronously. Yours might not be, and that is worth establishing before either of us invests in a proposal.

What it costs, and how the distance works.

Quoted and invoiced in USD. Project work is a fixed price agreed before we start, so exchange-rate movement is our risk rather than a surprise on your invoice.

Day rate — US$1,200

Our standard senior day rate, Our senior day rate for team augmentation and time-and-materials work. This is a market rate for Los Angeles, not a currency conversion of our London figure — set 25 July 2026 and fixed at quote.

Fixed-scope projects

Most work runs this way. We scope after a discovery call and give you a number before anything starts — no running meter, no change-order games for things that were obviously in scope.

Time zone — PT (UTC−8)

London is eight hours ahead of Los Angeles. Our day finishes as yours begins, so you get a full night of progress and we hold a live overlap in your morning.

Questions we get from Los Angeles clients.

No. Our headquarters is in London, UK, and we work with our Los Angeles clients remotely — DAS Law LA, MidEast Tacos, That's So Cheesy, Boova, the Grigor Gevorgyan Foundation and AlderCA among them. We are not going to claim a local office we do not staff. If your project genuinely requires someone on site, hire locally; we will tell you that rather than take the work.
It works, with one honest caveat: same-day back-and-forth is limited to your morning. In exchange you get genuine overnight progress — work you approve at 5pm Pacific is frequently underway before you wake up. We front-load calls into your morning, keep decisions asynchronous and documented, and avoid the situation where a project stalls waiting on a meeting. For most clients this is a net gain; for anyone needing constant real-time access, it is not.
Yes. We quote and invoice US clients in USD. Our standard day rate for US clients is US$1,200. Project work is a fixed price agreed before we start, so exchange-rate movement is our risk rather than a surprise line on your invoice.
Generally lower for equivalent seniority, and we would rather explain why than let you assume something is wrong. Our cost base is London rather than Los Angeles, and we do not carry the account-management layer most agencies of our capability do — you work with the people building the thing. Where an LA studio will beat us is anything needing on-site presence, local production or same-timezone availability throughout the day.
Referral, almost entirely. Our roots are Armenian, and that has always meant close ties to Armenian business networks across Toronto, London and Los Angeles — a number of these relationships came through them, and others came from clients recommending us onward. We have never run outbound sales into this market. It is a smaller book than Toronto for exactly that reason, and we would rather it grow the same way.
Most sit between US$7,000 and US$25,000 for a custom build, depending on whether there is commerce, integrations or application logic involved. Our day rate for time-and-materials or team augmentation is US$1,200. Anything materially below that range is usually better served by a good template implementation, and we will point you toward one rather than take work we cannot do well at that price.
Yes, and it is a large share of our work. We start with a paid audit rather than a quote, because inheriting an unfamiliar codebase without reading it is how agencies end up quoting numbers they cannot honour. The audit tells you what is actually there, what stabilising it costs, and whether a rebuild is genuinely cheaper than a rescue — which it sometimes is.
